Fans call Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Liger’ a ‘lost opportunity’

“The narration is totally formulaic. Where’s the story?”

Vijay Deverakonda ligerwhich marks his Bollywood debut, has garnered mixed reactions, with the majority of audiences calling the film “formula”.

Although Vijay’s transformation into an MMA fighter has been appreciated, people have described his hard work as a “wasted opportunity” as the film fails to live up to the hype.

liger is supported by Karan Johar and also stars Ananya Panday, Ramya Krishnan and Ronit Roy. It was widely promoted as a pan-Indian film.

Directed by Puri Jagannadh, the Telugu and Tamil versions of liger released on August 25. The Hindi version hits theaters on August 26.

The film managed to have a wide release as it opened as early as 4am in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

Despite a lot of hype before the release, liger failed to gain favorable reviews from fans.

A Twitter user wrote: “In liger, Vijay Deverakonda’s transformation is breathtaking, and he gives an engaged performance. But this is a missed opportunity. The narration is totally stereotyped. Where is the story?

Meanwhile, a Twitter user praised Vijay and Ramya’s earnest efforts but questioned why their potential was wasted on a “bad” movie.

In a series of tweets on liger, the user wrote, “To be honest, the golden age of Puri Jagannadh is over. It’s fine if his movies are bad.

“But why take a star like Vijay Deverakonda and an actor like Ramya Krishnadown with you?

“They’re both so serious about their performances, it breaks your heart to see them in a movie that doesn’t care. It’s so wrong.

Another user wrote that he was “disappointed” with liger. He said the film failed to capture the pan-Indian image.

He wrote: “The idea of pan-Indian cinema is a bubble. Go back to basics, have a solid story in place.

Vijay talked about liger during a recent interview, where he said he was not afraid of the fate of the film.

Vijay Deverakonda added that he has his mother’s blessings, people’s love and God’s support.

ANI news agency quoted Vijay as saying, “With liger we were expecting some drama… but we will fight.

“We put our hearts into making this film. And I believe I’m right.

“I feel there is no room for fear, when I had nothing I had no fear, and now having achieved something I don’t think there is a need to be afraid even now.

“Maa ka aashirwaad hai, Logon ka pyaar hai, bhagwaan ka haath hai, andar aag hai, Kaun rokenge dekh lenge (We have mother’s blessings, people’s love, God’s support, a fire within us, we let’s see who will stop us)”
