Shahid Kapoor plays the role of a cricket enthusiast in Jersey, whose dreams of being a part of the Indian cricket team is fulfilled in his 40s. While the film went through many troubles ahead of its release, the audience had high expectations from it. Unfortunately, Jersey crashed at the box office on Monday, April 25. It’s collections went down by 45-50 per cent, taking the total four-day box office collection to Rs 16.45 crore. Jersey released on April 22.
JERSEY BOX OFFICE COLLECTION
Jersey minted Rs 5 crore on Day 3. However, the collections dipped even further on Day 4, April 25, at the box office. According to early estimates, the film collected in the range of Rs 1.70 to 1.80 crore on Monday. Hence, the total box office collection now stands Rs 16.45 crore reportedly. Jersey might be headed towards a lifetime total of just Rs 20 crore, and end up being a major flop. The drop in collections on Monday has sealed the fate of the film on the theatrical front. It has majorly been affected by Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2. Jersey might also be discontinued from the theatres by its second Friday and be replaced by Heropanti 2 and Runway 34.
Jersey is the Hindi remake of Nani’s Telugu film of the same title. In an interview with IndiaToday.in, Shahid talked about his approach to the film and character, Arjun Talwar. He said, “We all felt inspired from the film that we saw. We wanted to take it to a different audience. We rediscovered it. And I have made that character mine in every way that I can and I have complete ownership and I am very possessive of him. But the character that was played by Nani was their first one. So, that respect will always be with him.” Jersey is backed by Allu Entertainment, Dil Raju Production, Sithara Entertainments and Brat Films.
