Karthi Starrer Sardar wins battle against Prince on Sunday but overall numbers remain low, read inside!

It seems that none of the films released last week in the south to take advantage of the Diwali holiday managed to capture the public’s imagination. Sardar of Karthi and Prince of Sivakarthikeyan were released in Tamil and Telugu versions last Friday.

Sardar managed to garner significantly positive reviews over Prince. And it looks like the good reviews are helping PS director Mithran deliver a decent box office performance in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It won’t be wrong to say that Sardar won’t live up to the performance of previous blockbusters like Thiruchitrambalam and PS1.

In the Kollywood Diwali showdown between Sardar and Prince, the Karthi star emerged victorious. Sadrar is having a good first weekend at the box office with an upward trend, grossing around Rs. 21 crores. The film started off slow but made good gains over the next two days, taking the lead, and has now put the film in a good position to capitalize over the holiday period. Tamil Nadu contributed Rs. 12.75 crores of the total while Telugu states contribute another Rs. 6 crores approx.

It’s like Diwali 2019, when another Karthi star, Kaithi started with small numbers but made big gains during the Diwali period, crossing Rs. 50 crores in Tamil Nadu on just Rs. 2.60 crores on opening day. Here the movie started at Rs. 3.50 crores on Friday and cleared Rs. 5 crores on Sunday, recording perhaps his biggest day of racing today.

Sardar’s box office collections at the Indian box office are as follows:

Friday – Rs. 6 credits
Saturday – Rs. 7 credits
Sunday – Rs. 8 credits

Total – Rs. 21,000,000,000

Prince is having a bad weekend, raking in only Rs. 16.50 crores with a declining trend. Majority of collections were from Tamil Nadu at Rs. 12.25 crores while Telugu states amounted to Rs. 3.25 crores. Due to the bad trend, the film will not enjoy the holiday period much and will probably stop airing at the end of the holiday period on Wednesday.

Prince’s box office collections at the Indian box office are as follows:

Friday – Rs. 6.50 cr
Saturday – Rs. 5.25 cr
Sunday – Rs. 4.75 cr

Total – Rs. 16.50 crore

But the overall collections are still subpar and pale in comparison to blockbusters like PS 1.
